This blog is yours – what do you want to see?

I have a huge favor to ask of you at the end of this blog post, but first, a quick announcement:

In a couple of weeks, CorporateDollar.Org will be relaunched as a totally new blog (lots of very cool stuff coming :-) ). This metamorphosis is the result of me growing and learning from the many connections I’ve nurtured online and offline.

Birth…

I started writing CorporateDollar.Org when non-profits started asking me how to get corporate sponsors. Hence the blog title.

How to use selling skills in order to win a corporate sponsor only garnered a few blog posts. People found value in what I was writing, but… I just wasn’t that passionate about the topic.

It was then that I took a very cool blogging course by Chris Garrett called Authority Blogger. In this class, I learned two crucial lessons:

  1. How to build a successful blog and everything that goes along with that (business plan, understanding one’s market, increasing subscribers).
  2. How to bring out what is uniquely me into the blog (how to blog passionately for the long run). Chris calls this finding your “hook”.

Corporate what?

Since taking Chris’ class, I’ve focused only on what gets me amped. And the blog has taken off in ways I could have never dreamed of. But still, “CorporateDollar.Org” has confused more than a few folks. I don’t write about Corporates or Dollars. :-)

So, through this continual process of digging in the dirt – and through a lot of feedback from friends, I’ve concluded that this blog can be much more than it is now. It can be huge!

And it needs to be huge for the folks like you who spend precious time reading it each week. Thank you, thank you!

Like I said at the beginning of this post there’s lots of very cool stuff coming.  But I want to hear more from you:

This blog is yours – what do you want to see?

As long as it’s legal and doesn’t involve nudity, I’ll consider it.

  • Sweet blog. I never know what I am going to come across next. I think you should do more posting as you have some pretty intelligent stuff to say.

    I'll be watching you . :)
  • I would like to see lots of blogging tips. No one ever knows too much about blogging. Definitely more interviews too!

  • @Ben - Thanks so much for the great feedback here. This list is very helpful to me - very specific and thoughtful! Bigger picture, heart-based strategic articles are part of the plan. I just started the Friday Deliciousness and have missed a coupe of weeks so maybe I should call it Occasional Friday Deliciousness :-) Again -thanks!
  • John,

Congratulations on making the change. I'll be at the front of the line, waiting for the new stuff. I always find your posts engaging and informative.

I've got a bunch of marketing blogs on my RSS. I browse most of them, but there are 3 that I read: Seth Godin's, Chris Brogan's, and yours. Why? I like how your blog mixes the concrete and the concept. Principle and process. It's about more than how to grow your business; it's about how to grow yourself as a business person.

    That's hugely appealing to me.

So, since you're asking, here's what I'd like to see:

-Lots of ideas... big ones, grand ones. Inspiration, but not bullshit. As soon as I figure out how to say what that *really* means, I'll be publishing a book about it :-) . But it's great to see that come through in a blog- it's rare. I feel like there's a lot of it here.

-Regular Friday Deliciousness... or something like that. It's one thing to get a bunch of links from around twitter or wherever else, but I feel like if you collected and formatted a -small- number (I'd go with 3, cause it's the magic #) of links that you found during the week, I'd follow them.

-Regular interviews... one a week, maybe? that's a lot of work, for sure, but I think you'd see it take off. The few interviews I've read here, I've really liked. Get people from across the spectrum. I'd read.

    Thanks
    Ben

So, that's what I've got. Not sure if that changes things as much as it augments some of them.

And thanks for changing the name. I could never quite get my head around it.

  • And cake.
For your blog rebirth / relaunch fiesta... will there be cake?
  • @Rebecca - Chocolate or Angel?
  • @TheDailyBlonde - Ribbon cutting - now that's an idea!
  • John, you're really limiting things by not offering nudity. However, I am looking forward to the new digs...and I want to see more posts on "anything" social media so I can keep learning from you.
Are you having a ribbon cutting ceremony? ;)

  • @Tom - What would be an example?
  • Tom Miesmer
Legal and no nudity!!! what's left to talk about?
How about finding those inner things that really "get us juiced"
  • @Gina - Thanks - I'll keep that in mind - really.
  • Wow! You go John....I already see your blog as big and trust it can only become HUGE. You have vast amounts of info AND ...what I love... a unique and fabulous way of sharing it here on your blog -whatever it is called (good for me to have just said that ;) ).

In any event if there is ever anything I can do to help make the new name and content transition smoother don't hesitate to ask!

You have made an incredible impact on my blogging and social media journey. Mahalo!
    With Much Aloha~G
