Twitter Is Launching Shared User Lists!

Nick Kallen (@nk), a project lead at Twitter wrote on the corporate blog about a new “lists” feature they’ve been testing with a subset of users.

Users of Twitter.com will soon have the ability to create custom lists of specific users. Tweetdeck and Seesmic currently have users list features, but soon all Twitter users will have this ability, simply by logging into Twitter.com.

Twitter lists will have great features:

  • List will be public by default, but can be made private.
  • Other Twitter users can subscribe to your lists. This means that you’ll be able to see who @chrisbrogan recommends following if you’re interested in other iPhone addicts.
  • Lists will be in the API, enhancing tools like @cotweet, Seesmic, Tweetdeck and Ubertwitter.

How will you use lists in Twitter?

I think this will be an incredibly powerful feature, people will be clamouring to be on certain lists (and perhaps money will exchange hands out of site) and people will also want to gain the attention of certain lists

e.g. tech crunch creates an angel investor list, everyone will want to communicate with this list if they have a web2.0 start up
  • Yup - I'm sure we'll be seeing the good, the bad and the ugly in people. ;-)

you know what I would want to see twitter will do? i hope we can comment on tweets same as we can comment on facebook status because if we're like following too many people and one of our friends tweet something, all we do is search everything and it takes a lot of time..
  • I think the "Project Retweet" that Twitter is working on will tie replies and mentions together better: http://blog.twitter.com/2009/08/project-retweet...
  • Is that not the case anytime something new comes along? Within a short time they all get misused. :-(
