How to target your Facebook Page updates and streams

Marketing 101 teaches the law of relevance. The idea is that marketing messages are more effective when the message is relevant to the demographics of the receiver. For example, I’m much more interested in Facebook Page updates about restaurant specials or charity events in Boston than Miami.

Targeting updates and streams is easy with Facebook Pages. This allows non-profits to easily promote offline events to their Facebook Page fans without annoying those who live a thousand miles away.

  • Mark this in the "Things that make you go H-m-m-m" and "I did not know that." Great gems and worth using for sure.
  • Thanks Jeff. I'll create a new category for that!
  • Thanks for the info! I already knew it, but it is very good info for people who dont.

    Cheers from Cancun,Mexico!
  • Thanks, didn't know this, Walter.
  • Way back in August, I had a "lock" icon next to the share button on my personal profile. When I clicked on it, I could choose with which lists I wanted to share my updates. Then, the lock went away. (Facebook giveth and Facebook taketh...) I suspect I was part of a beta test group, and I've been waiting for that to be offered to all personal profile pages since.

That said, and maybe you have more information about that, I also want to thank you for sharing this tidbit about Pages. I hadn't noticed the change, and this is a great new feature for Page administrators. Another good teaching post, John!
  • I've never seen a "lock" on my profile, although someone should probably put one there for me. ;-)
