This is day 29 of the 31 Day Challenge To Optimize Your Blog With Social Media. Today we’ll continue where Lewis Howes started when he showed you how to use LinkedIn to promote your blog.

LinkedIn presents a wealth of untapped potential for non-profits. It’s the most respected professional social networking site with over 55 millions professionals from 200 different countries. Their tagline says it all: Relationships Matter“.

Here are a few more tips on using LinkedIn to promote your blog.

Title Are Everything

The short title of your LinkedIn profile is the first thing that gets seen in searches. Make it interesting.

titles are everything

List Prior Lives

If your profile only lists your current position, you’re limiting the power of LinkedIn.

When you include past employers in your profile, LinkedIn automatically alerts you of past colleagues. Including your complete professional history will help you build a network of those prior connections.

LinkedIn Email Signature

An embedded email signature is an easy way to promote your skills and experience (and your blog) in the course of doing business.

Improve Your Google Rankings

Because LinkedIn profiles rank very high on Google, exposure for your blog goes along for the ride. However, to maximize this potential, select “Full View” in your profile settings. Also, customize your public profile’s URL to be your actual name – then put this link on your website and use this link when you comment on blogs.

LinkedIn URL

Edit “My Website”

LinkedIn profiles allow you to list blogs or websites. Edit the “My Website” section and include your non-profit (select “Other” from the main menu). In addition to your url, edit the text to include keywords for your organization. Again, this will help SEO.

LinkedIn Anchor Text

Import Your Blog

LinkedIn has several applications, including a WordPress blog import. This allows you to feature your most recent blog posts on your LinkedIn profile.

Tweet Your Status

You can also post your tweets to your LinkedIn status. But be careful with this one – especially if you’re on Twitter a lot. Select the option that allows you to pick which tweets you wanted copied over to LinkedIn.

  • Great review...I would just add (which I personally haven't done yet) is to use the slideshare option, if you have a portfolio of work, or a great presentation that you have done, put it in slide share and then import the slideshare to your linkedin profile.
  • Great point. I'm not a big slideshare user, but if I was, I would add my
    presentations. Thanks!
  • Great resoure, I would encourage people to friend you for tips. These tips help people get jobs and save the world.
  • John.. some cool tips here..

One tip is to check out the LinkedIn for iPhone. LinkedIn for iPhone really rocks. I think it is almost better then the web version.

    Cheers.. Are
  • It is a great app!

I was trying to figure out how you were able to customize the "my company" name, etc. And, then I realized that if you selected "Other" from the Main menu instead of "My Company" or "My Blog", you could set it as whatever you wanted.
  • Exactly. I should have been more clear about that.
  • I was about to suggest the same as Sue Anne. You may want to edit your above text.
  • Done - thanks Sue Anne!

Just doing my job to keep you on your toes. :)
  • Good tips John. I hadn't realised all my Tweets were going to LinkedIn until a contact complained! So I set it to just those that contain #in or I can select it through Tweetdeck. Thanks!
  • I disapprove of any tweets going to LinkedIn -- for the simple reason none of them are valuable to me. I wish I could hide that section from my LI homepage.
  • I've only sent a few links that are relevant, like when I tweeted this post.
  • You use the #li or #in hashtags then? You're one of the good guys.

Unrelated, you have a coding error between the URL of this page and the Disqus short URL for your comment to me which is redirected as http://johnhaydon.com/2010/01/optimize-linkedin...
  • #in as the hashtag. Hey! We're due for brunch again!
  • Joel - anytime. I think LinkedIn added the selective tweet feature after a
    few people complained.
